About Me

I learned how to cook out of necessity and I'm in no way a chef. I'm a computer geek that learned to cook when I needed to cook for myself. It all started with recipes on some 3 x 5 cards (remember those?) from my Mom, and I've expanded from there. Given my ethnic background, I mainly cook Chinese-American food since I'm familiar with the ingredients since I was growing up, but you'll also find a lot of grilled recipes, which is very American. Chinese-American food has it's roots in Chinese food. As the Chinese immigrated from China, with the early immigrants coming from Guangzhou (Canton), the food was adapted to use local ingredients and tastes. So the Chinese-American dishes that I grew up with resemble Cantonese food, but are usually not found in Guangzhou.

While I don't speak Cantonese, the dialect my bilingual parents spoke, the tools on the internet allow for the translation of the recipes. So I've included a Cantonese-English ingredient dictionary page and you'll find most recipes with the Cantonese titles and ingredients.

About the Blog's Name

Duck Soup is American slang for easy, so the name of the blog could be Easy Easy. Duck is also a play on words for my name (Doug). The name struck me as appropriate since I'm always looking for easy to cook everyday recipes.
